After being in Lockdown for weeks and weeks, I was invited to play at Lanhydrock Golf Club on Wednesday. Not knowing what to expect apart from the rules of social distancing strictly being adhered to there.. I found the grounds of the Club and Hotel in stunning condition, arriving just 15/20 minutes before the scheduled tee-off time as directed.
The formalities of preparing to play were of these times, short and sweet; given a card outside the pro-shop by Graham Bond, the owner of the Club and asked to give the ground staff right of way on the course.
The view from the first tee, down towards the water and the green beyond was a real sight for eyes sore from weeks of self isolation.. the course looked immaculate.
We did wait for green staff on the third .. for half a minute.. they saw us and cleared the green quickly and were friendly and proud of the work they’d been doing on the course. They had my hearty thanks and congratulations, by the way!
The trees in full bloom, the greens true and the fair weather helped the golf course seem to get better as we played. The ground firmer than when we last played so the ball rolled nicely on the fairways, yet they were lovely and springy to walk on.
The course undulating yet fairly level land in and around the trees, not a course to smash your driver off every tee by any stretch of the imagination.. the beauty of the course matched by the course management needed to navigate it!…….the only real hill a testing dog leg left the 13th.. then, open your shoulders on the 14th for the short par 4 back down and try your luck.. tricky green though..!
What a great course.. some fabulous holes I haven’t mentioned.. I recommend you go and find out for yourselves..though I will say the 18th, a par 5 back up to the clubhouse is a great finishing hole with a big bunker to miss and a big layered green to take on.
Yes, I did have good company for the round, which helps, yet frankly we were both constantly remarking on the excellent condition and the playability of the course between shots to the point of feeling encouraged.
Thank you Mr Bond. 5 STARS
I visited Lanhydrock Hotel & Golf club for a golfing weekend with a group of friends. The hotel was spotlessly clean and they were taking extra precautions due to the coronavirus. The rooms were well appointed and the underfloor heating in the bathroom was great. The food in the restaurant was most enjoyable and the portions huge. The management obviously recruit the right staff who maintain a good level of service. Without exception, the staff were all friendly and proficient. The course was challenging in places with some interesting water hazards. Unfortunately, due to recent wet weather, the course was a bit boggy in places, but by the second day it was drying out. Sadly, our stay was cut short due to the virus and we had to head home a day early. This hotel and course are well worth a visit – and its very reasonably priced.
Stayed for one night….room very clean and bright and a treat to have underfloor heating in the bathroom. Food was very good and at a very reasonable price and breakfast what can I say a full Cornish puts a full English to shame 2 of everything (well why not) especially after a morning workout in a very well equipped gym. Would definitely stay again
The waitress for our evening meal had exceptional customer service skills which made our meal a very enjoyable experience. All staff were very friendly and the hotel was able to provide a late check out so my wife could enjoy a lie-in and use the fitness suite whilst I attended a business event.
What a wonderful place to stay. Staff were friendly, and helpful. The whole place was clean and fresh. Food was excellent. Can’t speak highly enough of everything.
Welcoming and friendly. Driving up late in the evening, it welcomes before you even get out of the car. The food was excellent, the rooms were clean, well-equipped and comfortable, and the team there were very helpful and friendly. A good range of choice on the carvery and the main menu. Definitely one that’s going on my list for future trips to the area.
I can not stress enough how welcoming and comfortable the staff here made us feel, the service was out of this world, nothing was too much. The room was fabulous and the food was delicious. The breakfast was plentiful with much more offered, you wouldn’t go hungry. The hotel and grounds are lovely and then a short drive down the road to visit Lanhydrock itself. I highly recommend a stay and cannot thank the staff enough. I will be returning.
We were very lucky with a deal on a suite. We were not disappointed, the room was lovely, with 2 sets of doors that opened out to a patio overlooking the golf course. The room was very clean and the under floor heating in the bathroom a treat…We had a meal in the restaurant it was lovely, the staff very attentive and looked after us well. I would recommend this lovely hotel, we will definitely return for another cheeky night away.
Friendly professional staff and lovely surroundings!
